My $0.02
Note: One of my tasks was recruiting IT folks, that's how I created mainframe team from scratch. I had to learn how to ask the questions, what questions... But definitely more important was how to HEAR the answer, what to pay attention to, etc. And many formal things, irrelevant here.

1. Review each candidate CV.
2. Ask the questions related to candidate's knowledge claimed in CV! Sometimes it could require some preparation. No one said it's easy job. 3. Don't create quiz questions with a/b/c/d answers. Significant work, poor effect. Instead ask open questions, ask about "some demanding task/project" hear the story, ask about details. 4. Ask about simple (yes: SIMPLE) things and observe the reaction. Is he able to provide proper set of parameters in the DD? What is connect ownership for?
5. Try. First time will be hard, but learn from it and try again.

I will be retiring in early June 2025. My manager asked if I would be
interested in doing part-time work for my current employer.
While I have mixed feeling regarding continued work, I agreed to the part-time
schedule. My wife and I will be spending time
in Eastern Europe for several months, starting in early June 25. While my
manager would prefer to keep me, he is being asked
by my employer to interview possible candidates for my position. If a suitable
person is not found, my part-time work could be
extended.

With all of that said, I have been asked to participate in the interview
process. I have always been on the interviewee side of
the table, never the interviewer. I would appreciate it very much, if the list
could give me questions to ask during the interview
process. The person needs to be a z/OS generalist, with experience in
installing and maintaining z/OS and ISV products,
RACF administration, DASD administration, TS77xx/GRID configuration, DR/BCP
planning and execution, DASD replication
(IBM DS8xxx or HDS), and performance and tuning. Thanks in advance.

"Confidentially doc, I am the wabbit."
