Hi Rex That’s pretty amazing! For sites that strictly use our vtl or DASD products, we just “transfer” the license from production to DR. In reality both sides are licensed all the time, we just do it as a courtesy

So now, when we run a DR test, we need to bring the system up on the replicated disk, get the VTS tapes online, restore the volume the software is on, before we can test their software. All this on top of needing to contact them to get a DR key for their software because it has no grace period for DR testing. We're seriously considering just moving their software to "out of scope" for DR tests because dealing with them is such a hassle. For our last DR test we had contacted them well in advance of the test and never did get keys. CAUTION! EXTERNAL SENDER! STOP, ASSESS, AND VERIFY Do you know this person? Were you expecting this email? If not, report it using the Report Phishing Button! Hi list, I know this sounds bizarre - and it is to me. Our DR/backup process is that we have a second site that we are doing full disk replication of our DS8K (async) to our second datacenter. We also perform nightly/weekly backups to our local TS7K, which is also replicated to our second site. The tape backups are then copied from the TS7K to physical TS11xx tapes (I don't remember what generation offhand) in a TS4500 at the second site for a tertiary offsite backup. We have a CBU machine at the offsite location that once a year we fire it up, carve off a "test" set of disk volumes, bring up our production LPARs in the DR environment and conclude our test well before the 10 day CBU test speed-up is over. Here's my question for others who have similar setups. Do you have to pay any of your third party vendors an extra license fee for the ability to run their software at the DR site? We just got out of a meeting with a vendor which will remain nameless to protect the guilty who informed us that since we can "bring our DR system up so fast because we're replicating their software to the second site" that we need to pay a second site license for their software. The rest of our third party vendors either don't even need a DR key or they just provide it as a courtesy for running a DR test. Offline responses are fine with me as I don't want any of you to get in trouble with this vendor...
