Peter, I have been faced by this same situation in the past. I performed the following:
1. Did a COPY with DFDSS with the RENAME PARM on the TARGET DSN. I think the parm is RENUNC. For example. ABC.DEF.GHI.NEW 2. Did an IDCAMS ALTER with NEWNAME parm on the SOURCE dsn. For example ABC.DEF.GHI.OLD 3. Did an IDCAMS ALTER with NEWNAME parm on the TARGET dsn. For example ABC.DEF.GHI This way you have the original dsn and you have it available if a backout is required. After a few days if there is no problem then you can delete it. Hope this helps. And run ADRDSSU volume to volume copy. Then vary off all the production 15 volumes and catalog all the dataset present in the target volume in test lpar . Will this work?
