You said it was a database but never mentioned if it's VSAM or PS. There are considerations for copying volumes. I'm not familiar with IMS databases. I believe VSAM DEFINE RECATALOG requires the same catalog name (from VVDS). Keeping the same volume IDs could pose some risk if they somehow get attached to the production system.
