IDCAMS:

ALTER <DSN NAME or DATA component> ADDVOL(* * * * * *)

Will add 6 volumes to an SMS-managed data set.

If not SMS-managed, the volumes must be explicitly named.

There are no problems with any volume as I tested on all volumes by allocating
a small dataset.

The only problem I see it cannot beyond 6th volume .

Like I said.. initially you will see the first volume as it continues to grow
..and automatically it spans over to second volume and so on. Until it spans
from 1st volume to second you cannot see the dataset being available on second
volume.

Once the first volume reaches 100%, then automatically it grows to the second
till 6th volume.

So no problem with volume
No duplicates
All the volumes were empty prior running the idcams repro.(validated via ISPF
3.4)
