I am sure in that we had exactly this issue recently when someone tried to alias non-vsam dataset across catalogs. I thought I found something somewhere that logically (but not necessarily explicitly) supported this statement, but it might take me some time to find back again.

The AMS manual doesn't say that, as far as I can see.
