Data-set aliases are certainly useful for keeping such names as
ASSEMBLE or BIND unchanged when new versions are brought into use.
They permit an installation to control which version default-taking
users will invoke.

I made my comment because it seemed to me that things were being done
or, better, attempted with data-set aliases that are better done with
member-name ones.  I still think this.
