My fault was I should be b more specific:
"inside the BOOK (for machines with BOOKs), inside the MCM (for machines
with MCMs), *inside the PU* (that covers all machines". Note: we are
talking about z990 and newer machines. Pre-z990 machines (z900, z800,
9672 family) had no CPACF. CCF was available instead.
Note2: In this context I mean PU as multi-core chip. For EC12 or z196 PU
is six-core, for z10 PU is quad-core. Every core is (can be) a CP in
terms of MVS.
2. Yes, models vary in whether main processor cores have dedicated or
shared CPACF elements. The zEC12, for example, has a CPACF element
associated with every main core (PU).
Using my nomenclature from the above: "associated with every main core".
3. To my knowledge CPACF is always co-resident on the same microprocessor
chip as the PU(s).
