Rex, Have you looked at using SYSB-II from H&W? It is designed to allow updates to VSAM between CICS and batch with full VSAM integrity. It does this by "function shipping" the batch program's VSAM I/O requests to the appropriate CICS region. It does require JCL changes to the batch job to use it.
We use it _intensely_ and have had very few problems. 99+% of which were due to an application problem.
