Security/Integrity PTF's are flagged by FMID. If that is not known, it is hard to get/install the SEC/INT maintenance. The amount of "additional work" (just receive, apply, accept(opt) an additional few PTFs) to support JAVA via SMP/E is minimal and should take no more "space" that non-smp methods. For that reason I have chosen to install/maintain JAVA via SMP/E.
I agree (in general) that SMP/E is overkill since the packaging method for JAVA maintenance is full replacement of the HFS/ZFS file. Just my $0.02 USD worth... <snip> The command: <java_home>/bin/java -version will tell you what version and maintenance level. IMO, it is not very useful to install Java on z/OS via SMP/E because of the way that it is maintained. The downside is the extra space required for SMP/E. Does anyone see a benefit? </snip> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
