Perhaps if you provide some more detail on why you need to do this. Systems have changed over the decades and perhaps there is a better solution than querying JES2. Of course that may be the correct solution, but without the details on why this is being done, it is hard to judge.
Are you trying to run batch processing and needing to ensure certain files are closed/open in CICS? Is there an enq you run into between cics and the batch job?
