You can use a device on an OSA-ICC to be the 3270 console for z/VM
IPL. The configuration of the OSA-ICC can be done from the browser
session. Connecting with a 3270 emulator to the HMC's IP address with
the port number you supplied, and the LPAR name as LUname gives a
local 3270 device on the Logical Partition. This can be the local
address used in the z/VM IPL. If you had the DVD already in the HMC
drive I suppose you could do a first level Gen on z/VM remotely, but I
haven't tried.
No, Integrated 3270 session can be used remotely. BTDT.
Mounting DVD - well, for sure someone has to insert the DVD into the
drive, but it doesn't mean further operations hava to be performed locally.
z/VM installation - whole installation can be done remotely. There are
two ways: 1. Some "remote hands" inserted the DVD for you, 2.
installation is performed from ftp server on your PC (or any other
machine).
