You said, that the ++FEATURE and ++PRODUCT records are in the same file than
the product MCS (++FUNCTION etc.) itself. I think at least in my case that's
not true.

I found both in the same directory SMPPTFIN. While the normal MCS records are
in (in my example) S006.CBCACHE.HPRF450.SMPMCS.pax.Z the product data is in
S0029.CSP.STP35770.PRODDATA.pax.Z. (It is the same with the ++ASSIGN
statements, which are in S0028.CSP.STP35770.ASSIGNS.pax.Z)

So, if you use GIMUNZIP directly (what I had done) and not RECEIVE FROMNTS
you'll miss the ++FEATURE and ++ PRODUCT.

(The reason for doing GIMUNZIP directly was, that I haven't a running SMPNTS
environment at that time and GIMUNZIP gives you normal MVS files instead of USS
stuff, which one can use in old fashioned z/OS SMP/E jobs, but now I changed my
environment to use RECEIVE FROMNTS.)

Kind regards.
Juergen

BTW: IMHO such a central ++FEATURE/++PRODUCT repository would although be an
idea for the IBM CPMz service (or other services who get a copy of the CSI from
the customer and send back some kind of maintenance package) From the
information in such a repository and the CSI records one should be able to
"repair" the CSI in order to complete the missing ++FEATURE and ++PRODUCT
records.
