Bingo! CONSOLE address space issues an exclusive ENQ which falls in to a WAIT state because the job already has an active SHAREd ENQ. This raises more questions for me though, why doesn't a normal vary <dev>,online of a 3390 request an exclusive ENQ? Why is the vary <dev>,console exclusive and not shared? Why can't the ENQ for the DD with the non-existent volser be shared?
Thanks for shedding some light on this Barbara. _Jan -----Original Message----- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: dinsdag 25 augustus 2015 11:05 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: vary <dev>,console with an IEF238D outstanding. > IEE799D VARY CONSOLE DELAYED - REPLY RETRY OR CANCEL. > > A VARY CONSOLE command requested that a console be placed online or offline. > The system could not process the command due to other processing in the > system such as: > - Another VARY CONSOLE command > - Device allocation in progress > </quote> Just guessing here, but I think there is ENQ contention, probably SYSIEFSD Q4 or VARYDEV or both. Can you still check?
