Tom:
A *LONG* time ago (pre dynamic exits) we had a rogue sysprog decided
to install a SILO without getting the sysprog department involved.
He screwed it up beg time and I got a call on a Sunday afternoon
telling me that the system wouldn't IPL.
He screwed up LINKLSTxx and didn't bother to stick around to make
sure the IPL was OK and everything was working.
Frankly *IN THIS CASE* I wouldn't have wanted dynamic linklst to work.
Frankly I would have liked not to have answered the call and let the
politics take care of the issue (fire the sysprog and his boss) The
boss got off clean until they found out he got money under the table
and he was fired. The rogue sysprog eventually left the company to go
to Disney World where I hope he had to train his replacement.

I disagree.
Sorry, Tom, with my utmost respect to you, for production systems,
I agree to
disagree.
That's ok. We can disagree. But please allow me to explain a bit.
Dynamic linklist is one of the more difficult to get right, but
there are a lot of
dynamic facilities. I wouldn't want to run a system without them
these days.
Here are a few of the others:
Dynamic IODF
Dynamic APF
Dynamic LPA
Dynamic SSI
Dynamic exits
Dynamic CPU and memory reconfiguration
Dynamic changes to WLM
Dynamic changes to SMS
Pretty much everything that you can change in JES2
Most of these can cause problems if used incorrectly. Many of them
also
make the Sys Prog's life easier.
