Actually I think IBM System i is still valid. Yes, back around the 2008 timeframe, IBM merged their iSeries and pSeries (IIRC) hardware into the power line, so now both System i and System p run on the same hardware line (I don't remember if they are identical up to the OS or if they run different firmware on the iron). The difference between them is the System p is in the operating system. The System p runs either AIX or Linux and the System i runs whatever OS/400 morphed into.
I extrapolated the above from http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/power/software/i/about.html Rex -----Original Message----- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Charles Mills Sent: Monday, March 07, 2016 4:18 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Alleged mainframe breach to add to the list The rename 400 to i occurred (according to Wikipedia) in 2000. I know I still familiarly say "AS/400" because I can't keep the various IBM System _ letters straight (other than z, of course). So perhaps their AS/400 is really a System i. Also, in 2008 (same source) the AS/400 and RISC lines merged to become "IBM Power Systems" so even the System i name is waaaaaay antique. -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_System_i Charles -----Original Message----- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Phil Smith Sent: Monday, March 07, 2016 12:54 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Alleged mainframe breach to add to the list Bigendian Smalls wrote: > It was an AS400 according to the full report Really an "AS/400"? Or iSeries? Or System i? or IBM i? Just hard to believe it was really that old. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN The information contained in this message is confidential, protected from disclosure and may be legally privileged.
