I meant to mention this, but I forgot.   I have to use PDS for my SMPPTSes 
because we share
the global zone between 2 business units / sysplxes that have their own target 
zones.  This
is needed due to different customization / usermods for each of the business 
units.  

Not just the global zone is shared, all the CSIs associated with each target 
zone for each
sysres set in each environment is on the shared string of DASD.  This way I can 
look
from any LPAR and see what sysres sets a PTF is applied to.   The sysres sets 
themselves
are not shared, so the apply has to be done in the proper sysplex.
