Tom, The idea is to apply 2.1 maintenance that would make 2.1 compatible with 2.3. Since IBM won't release 2.4 compatibility maintenance for 2.1, if there's some that would make 2.1 co-exist with 2.3, that might make it easier for the OP to make the jump from 2.1 to 2.4.
