I was in the same boat as you and I attended Share which had quite a few sessions which helped me get over the hump. I had a list of items that I needed help with. By attending sessions and asking questions I was able to get all the information but one item from share.
I also found that the group of VM/Linux people at share to be the most helpful group in Share. They were always willing to discuss an issue that related to my environment while not being overbearing of their systems or practices. I'm speaking from 10+ years of attending share. -----Original Message----- From: The IBM z/VM Operating System [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Kline, Martin Sent: Thursday, March 26, 2009 9:06 AM To: [email protected] Subject: User-Recommended z/VM Training Can any VM systems programmers recommend a good training course for seasoned mainframe sysprogs who are expanding into z/VM? The course I am = looking for should teach how to properly install, maintain, debug, tune, = expand, plan, etc. including network, security, operations, etc. for a = serious systems programmer. If you're a vendor/trainer, please do not respond with your sales pitch. = I want recommendations from actual users only. And, if you can only recommend NOT going to someone's particular course, speak up please. I worked with VM many years ago, so am aware of some of the concepts, but= don't recall many of the details. Now, we're wanting to evaluate zVM for = our Linux systems. On two occasions so far people have been signed up for= IBM education on VM, only to have the classes cancelled at the last minut= e due to an insufficient number of students. So, although IBM offers what = sounds like a good class, they aren't delivering it. I could rant on abou= t that for a while, but what's the value?
