Hi I cannot write in spanish (with dead-keys) and in japanese (complex writing). I reported this problem a LONG time ago in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/335732 although it took me a while to find out what the problem was. It not only happens on xim applications. It happens on TCL applications and on kde applications (I use gnome in ubuntu).
