I'm also affected. xterm does not notice dead keys with
XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus, and does with empty XMODIFIERS.
Firefox works correctly.
openoffice 3.2 does not notice dead keys with either configuration.
Spanish keyboard, ibus.
I'm using ibus compose in openoffice for accented characters. Works, but is
slower
á (firefox: two characters: ' a)
á (openoffice: seven characters: shift space 'a space shift space)
