Why are you trying to avoid this functionality?
It is present both in Windows and in SCIM, and it is very convenient for
those who use more then 2 engines.
Believe me, it is extremely inconvenient to cycle through several
languages, with or without AltTab-like indication. For example, I have 5
engines installed. Of them, I regularly use 3, and other 2 are used time to
time. Switching between them is a HUGE pain.
Another problem with such approach is that when I am cycling between
engines, even engines that are not needed will be loaded.
What we need is a way to switch to the desired engine with some fixed key
combination, *that does not depends on the active engine*.
People rarely need to switch to the "next language" or "previous language",
when typing. We need to switch to the "Russian language" or "Chinese
language".
Well, I haven't tested it though. Hope that Hansi's guesses are correct.
