I've finally switched to using thumb shift input for Japanese. It is extremely fast and causes less finger fatigue. Thumb shift method needs a bit more time to learn than plain JIS kana input and not very convenient on usual keyboards, but I like it more than other methods. And IBus-Anthy supports thumb shift input correctly on 101-key type keyboards (via setting "Alt_L" and "space" as thumb shift keys and selecting NICOLA-A layout).
