You could install all of gtk2 and gtk3 im-ibus.so and ibus-x11.
If you set $XMODIFIERS as @im=ibus, ibus-x11 receives the key events and
the key events are forwarded to ibus engines.
% env LANG=en_US.UTF-8 XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus xterm
