I think you mean "ibus-daemon --daemonize --xim".
Yes, sorry, --xim, as Ubuntu's default. Note that I can reproduce the
problem on my main system (Ubuntu Trusty, its default Unity desktop) as
well as Fedora 20 inside VMware.
Did you try to open the saved file on xterm to check whether the problem
is ibus or not?
If I type into a file, I get the same behavior as with "od -x". E.g. type
to a file in gnome-terminal, save, open the file under xterm => the
character is there. Do this the other way around => the character is not
there. It's clearly a data problem (the character is actually missing from
the file), not some display glitch.
