On the netbook, I could get ibus-daemon to use >35% CPU
But I think your youtube didn't show it on 'top' while the picture quality
was not good.
I was indeed using xfce / xfwm on both of the computers. Ibus should
work correctly with xfce I suppose.
Do you mean you can see the same problem on both xfce and xfwm?
Are you able to attach the log of strace with high CPU time?
% ibus exit
% strace ibus-daemon --xim
