Hi Folks,

I'm in the middle of my first spring tune-up on my 1984 C-27 (Aquadesiac) and
naturally I have a question. My engine is a Universal M-18 Diesel with a
Hurth transmission. (SEE ENCLOSED SERVICE LINK)

When I drained the transmission I removed under a quart of a soupy,
grayish-pink oil that simply didn't look right to me. This is my first season
with the boat and I'm sure it's possible that the last owner could have mixed
different oils in the trans, or do you think it's possible that water got into
the trans? I've checked the trans and everything moves smoothly and shifts
fine, so I replaced the soup with Dextron ATF fluid.

My questions are; does that sound right to you?
Should I have done anything else?
I'm an old time mechanic and the oil in a auto's manual trans is a lot thicker
then ATF fluid, is ATF fluid the right stuff to be using?

Any advise would be great.

Thanks,
