Hi,

As a confirmation of the tranny fluid amount....
The Attached JPEG file is from the HURTH Owner's Manual..
It shows the Amount and the "Full" Ring mark on the Dip Stick..
For the HBW-50 it shows a recommended 0.31 liters.. that's about 10.5 Oz
U.S.
The manual also advises NOT to Over Fill !

If I may, I would advise you pick up a small squeeze bulb "eye dropper"
Drug stores carry ..BABY Medicine droppers that work well..
Then you can add ATF in small amounts..or Remove small amounts in order to
reach the "Ring" mark indicating FULL.
(I also use the Baby medicine dropper to drop measured amounts of BioFlor to
my diesel fuel_)

  I am also a new owner of a 1987 C27 with a Universal M-18 with the Hurth
HBW-50 tranny, according to the service link Bill provided. The service link
provides AT fluid quantity information, and for this tranny, it list .29
quarts. I calculate that at 9.28 ounces. The amount in the reply from sleepbod
suggests 1.3 pints, which equates to 20.8 ounces. This is too large a
difference to ignore. Is there any reason to doubt the manual? Is my math
wrong? More information would be appreciated. I plan on changing the AT fluid
this weekend, so I have not yet done the dipstick test as most of you have. How
much fluid goes in there????

of ATF. If it was just different colors than probably someone put regular oil
in. If you kept it you could see what settles out.

and naturally I have a question. My engine is a Universal M-18 Diesel with a
Hurth transmission. (SEE ENCLOSED SERVICE LINK)

grayish-pink oil that simply didn't look right to me. This is my first season
with the boat and I'm sure it's possible that the last owner could have mixed
different oils in the trans, or do you think it's possible that water got into
the trans? I've checked the trans and everything moves smoothly and shifts
fine, so I replaced the soup with Dextron ATF fluid.
