As I approached hull speed, the drag created by the added weight of my 27
caused water to pile into the lazarette. I plugged the drain hole to
prevent this inflow, but the drag of the flat transom was still a problem so I
added a sugar scoop to extend the stern and give me a greater wetted
surface. It did a wonderful job and a full knot of recovered hull speed by
eliminating the drag of the Catalina's flat transom.

I cannot post pictures on this site, but if you are interested I will
E-mail them to you directly.

Fair Winds and Following Seas to all who sail upon the waters!

Two questions:
1) Does anyone have any input re: Bowleys Quarters Marina? We're
thinking of moving across from the Eastern Shore - it's over an hour
closer to our house and somewhat less expensive.
2) We have a 1975 C27 that had an Atomic 4 (which expired and was
removed & replaced by an outboard on a bracket). There's a drain hole
in the transom (for the cockpit). It takes on water when we're
motoring faster than a crawl - we plug it with a removable rubber plug
but what if it's pouring rain while we're out there? Anybody have any
ideas.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Splendid Solstice & a happy 2010!
