  Hi David

I have just purchased a '76 Catalina 27. I have yet to put it in the water
and will be painting the botom first. What a great time for some mods!
Please send me whatever pictures you feel are relevent.

  Thanks, Mike

David, I preparing to haul Gratis, my ’85 (diesel, std. rig), to put the
to put the final “Bristol” on her repair/restoration.

I have been toying with the idea of extending the waterline by way of a
reverse transom, for looks as well as the added speed.

I have some ideas on how to accomplish this but would be very interested
in how you built your “sugar scoop”.

If you have the time and inclination, I’d love to see some photos and a
  description of the construction.

As I approached hull speed, the drag created by the added weight of my 27
caused water to pile into the lazarette. I plugged the drain hole to
prevent this inflow, but the drag of the flat transom was still a problem
  so I
added a sugar scoop to extend the stern and give me a greater wetted
surface. It did a wonderful job and a full knot of recovered hull speed by
eliminating the drag of the Catalina's flat transom.

I cannot post pictures on this site, but if you are interested I will
  E-mail them to you directly.

LOL....been there and finally added a sugar scoop to my stern to eliminate
the problem of pooping my lazarette.

Fair Winds and Following Seas to all who sail upon the waters!

  Two questions:
  1) Does anyone have any input re: Bowleys Quarters Marina? We're
thinking of moving across from the Eastern Shore - it's over an hour
closer to our house and somewhat less expensive.
  2) We have a 1975 C27 that had an Atomic 4 (which expired and was
removed & replaced by an outboard on a bracket). There's a drain hole
in the transom (for the cockpit). It takes on water when we're
motoring faster than a crawl - we plug it with a removable rubber plug
but what if it's pouring rain while we're out there? Anybody have any
  ideas.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Splendid Solstice & a happy 2010!
