Just a few random thoughts about rig tension.

Any "numbers" you see can only be a ball park starting point.

Many factors will contribute to the right "tune" for you and your boat.

How you use your boat, your local conditions, condition of your sails,
weather or not you have furling or an adjustable back stay are a few of the
factors.

Remember:

No 2 sails are the same, even new from the same loft.

No 2 boats are the same, even sequential hull numbers.

It's all about how you present the sail to the breeze.

My biggest lesson about rig tune came when I bought my first J 24. I
couldn't afford new sails right away. On the advice of a sailmaker, I
twisted the rig up like a pretzel to get a decent shape out of the old
sails. We won a few regattas with that setup. When I ran across some extra
money and bought a new suit, we slowed down 'till I spent a couple of days
re-tuning.

What works for me probably won't work for you.

Having said all that, good luck!

Subject: [IC27A] Specs for tensioning of shrouds for C27

I own a 1990 C27 - purchased it late last year. I had the mast dropped at
haulout in the fall. In preparation for the Spring launch, I need to get a
hold of information to assist me in determining the tensions which need to
be applied to the forestay, backstay, and shrouds.

Can anyone assist in pointing me to any sources for this information?
My boat is a 1990 C27, standard rig.

Thanks in advance.
