What year did they start buildings the 27s with a forward anchor locker?  I do
not have one on my '73, but I did have an 'anchor chain locker' accessible from
the deck and v-berth on one of my previous 27s ( '76, I think).

I had to tighten my deck cleats on an '84 C-27.  I removed the forward shelf
and bulkhead to the anchor locker and was able to get a box end wrench on the
nut.  Its a very narrow access (3-4 inches) between the hull and anchor locker
but the length of the wrench and by wiggling my arm up into the gap I was able
to get the wrench on the nut.  I then wedged the wrench so it butted up against
one wall of the slot and then used a piece of sponge to to keep it from
falling.  The sponge held the wrench in place and the wall prevented the wrench
from turning.  I was then able to go top side and with a large screw driver
tighten the hardware from the top side.  A bit of a chore going topside and
then going below and lying in the vee berth to reposition the wrench and sponge
for each nut, but it worked like a charm and I was able to tighten all nuts
single handed.

I removed all of my deck hardware on my '76. I could get to all the forward
hardware, cleats, pulpit, and pipe hawse for the anchor rode, without any
problems going through the anchor rode locker. I have an access port in the
forward 'flimsy' bulkhead. Same way I get to the running lights to change
bulbs.

You did not mention what year the boat is.  Many things are different on some
year models.  On my 86, I installed deck plates in the anchor locker to access
the cleat nuts.  Probably not what you wanted to hear.  I tried all sorts of
socket, extentions, and universal swivels and did not have any luck going from
the v-berth.

one of the bolts holding my port bow cleat has snapped. It appears that the
cleat is so outboard that it may be part of the hull/deck joint. I can't find
access to the nut as it seems to be through-bolted. I have not been able to
find access to the nut to replace the bolt.
I haven't completely taken apart the V berth and there is a flimsy bulkhead at
the upper forward compartment. Has anyone had to replace a bow cleat bolt and
how was it done?
