Rob,

I've been following the thread here and believe what I have is really called a
check valve. I went to the WM catalog but it isn't in there but went to their
online site and they have one listed for $15.99. I bought mine in the WM Store
in Washington, NC.  It didn't specify the hose size online but believe ours is
1-1/4". I cut the discharge hose about 6" up from the pump and put the check
valve in there. It was sort of fun getting it started in the hose but a little
liquid detergent helped. You will also need 2 SS clamps to install it. It will
help to remove the pump by pressing in on the 2 tabs on the sides of it so you
can wiggle it to help insert the hose.

If there is such a thing as your pump being all the way to the back of the
bilge you may need to buy a 6" piece of hose to move the bilge pump forward to
allow for the valve. Someone mentioned they had mounted their pump on a piece
of clear plastic and lets it ride on the bottom of the bilge. I suppose that
woud work if you need to remount the pump.
We went out and had a couple hour sail after lunch today. I love it!
