The shortest life items in the exhaust system are the hoses. Remember all  
rubber hose has a finite life. They all need to be inspected regularly and  
should be replaced before they actually begin to fail. The hose clamps 
should be  inspected and re-tightened as needed. The other likely suspects 
include the  following:  
 
1. Flange to manifold gasket.
 
2. Exhaust riser (Welded fabrication of Stainless tubing that connects to  
the manifold flange on one end and connects to the exhaust hose on the other 
 end. It is wrapped in a heat resistant cloth (fiberglass maybe). The 
wrapping  can be removed to inspect for leaks, holes, corrosion. etc. Catalina 
direct  sells these for big bucks. 
 
3. Water lift muffler (these rarely fail unless subjected to freeze damage  
due to improper winter lay-up)
