I bought a Nissan 9.8 w/ 25" shaft 7 years ago from http://onlineoutboards.com
and it's been great.  The shipping was free and there was no MD 6% (5% at the
time) sales tax.

Nissan and the smaller Mercury's are both rebranded Tohatsu's.

My 12 year old mercury 9.9 two-stroke outboard won't go into reverse
gear. I could get it fixed but I'm wondering if I should just replace it. One
of the most frustrating things about this outboard was that it barely fits in
the cut out in the transom. When I lift or lower the engine, I scrape my
knuckles as I force it. The engine has other issues I won't go into.

Can anyone recommend a good replacement for this 9.9? I'm looking for a better
fit, even if the hp is lower. Thanks in advance.
