BTW: If it happens again a couple of sections of PVC pipe, duct tape, and a
foot of 10 gauge ground wire formed into a hook will work wonders.

I had that happen the first week I owned my boat. I now use low stretch
5/16ths line I ordered from Cajun Trading in Nova Scotia.

Have you ever accidentaly let go of a wire/rope halyard? The ropes is heavier
than the wire and the halyard ends up at the top of the mast. If I was
changing halyards, I'd go the low stretch rope for 100% of the halyard. Just my
two cents.

By the way, I am talking about the sheave at the masthead on a boat set up for
internal halyards.
