One thing I can tell you if you are heading off shore, don't count on your cell 
service. Here in Florida we lose cell service between 5-8 miles off shore. Make 
sure you have a good VHF with a high antenna if you are heading away from land. 
Depth charts are a must also. Hate to run into a shoal in an area you are not 
familiar with. Also have a GPS going at all times with a backtrack. So if all 
else fails and everything goes wrong..you can hit backtrack and follow your 
"bread crumb" trail home.

Take some basic tools..extra line...sail tape. More fuel than you think you'll 
need. Easy prep food and lots of water.
