HEY ART - stopped by the club Sat PM & couldn't find your boat -  I tried. -
Had lunch with Dan Pilz Wed at MRYC...

before removing the tranny - call NAPA  on Alexis Rd - Describe your problem
- We used to have a product called a "HEALY COIL" spelling  may be goofed up -
back in the late 50's they worked great at fixing  buggered up spark plug
threads, engine oil drain plugs etc...    Don't know if they are still
avvailable...    They did work great however.

My 1984 Cat.27 is equipped with the Universal M-18 and HBW-50 Hurth
Transmission. The transmission drain plug is stripped. I was told I could
remove the old plug, and replace it with a self tapping drain plug. Or, I could
remove the transmission from the boat and have it repaired. I'm leaning toward
removal of the transmission, and repair as a long term solution. Does anyone
have first hand experience with removing a hurth transmission?

Thanks
