I just uploaded a picture of the keel bolt plates I put in my boat. When I pulled the nuts off, the washers were all caved in. The theory behind the plates is that greater load is placed over a wider surface area of the bilge floor. The plates are aluminum and everything has been coated/painted to thwart corrosion. I got the nuts from McMasters-Carr. The plates were set in a bed of epoxy to help seal everything off.
So far so good.
