Hi Brian,

This is a very brief history of some the major changes to the Catalina 27 that
will hopefully answer your first question.

Throughout it's production, the C27 came with one of two interior layouts. The
traditional, with an aft gally and P/S sets with a bulkhead mounted fold-up
table, and a Dinette, with a mid-ship galley and forward and aft facing seats
with a table in between.

Either model was available with an inboard or outboard or the "tall rig" The
tall rig has a short bow sprit and a taller mast.

In general, older boats have aft or end-boom mainsheets, single non adjustable
backstays, aluminum framed windows, and hull-mounted Nav lights at the bow.

Later models had cabin top mainsheets, split backstays, frameless windows, the
bow light was mounted on the pulpit, the main hatch was equipped with a sea
hood, the forward hatch was moved to the front of the coachroof, and an anchor
locker was added to the foredeck.

This is not by any means, a complete list, nor do I know the specific years
that these changes were incorporated. It is only meant as a guide to help you
evaluate various model years.

Good Luck
