I can only speculate, but I feel it was hurricane Ike and the way the boat was
tied to the dock. A hint: the starboard cleat was pulled off. Rust stains 8
inches up in the galley;
and by the way how do you remove rust from fiberglass?
The angle of the rust stain shows that only the stern filled with water. I
suppose the keel and or the rudder saved the rest. Whomever cleaned this boat
did a really good job, so those stains are going to be tough to remove.Note:
The cabin floor was not discolored, the carpeting may have filtered the water.
Just looking at the outside of the engine and how much rust lets me know there
is no chance this engine does not have water in it.
Do most of the marine diesel engines have a cylinder sleeve? it seems logical
if not has anyone sleeved a marine engine block for the C27?Thanks again,Marcus

I've got the same problem, but I am leaning towards electric. Check out the
YouTube videos.

      Hi All!

I have a 1986 C27 with a Universal 18 that is no longer alive. A rebuild is not
possible as the inside was completely pitted by water and likely to have issues
down the road even with a rebuild. So I am looking for a new used engine. It's
not my forever boat so I don't want to spend an arm and a leg. I am curious as
to what other engine options there are. What will fit the space? I looked at a
3-cyl Yanmar yesterday but I think it's about 1.5 inches too big. Any ideas?
BTW, I'm in Florida if anyone knows of anything and will drive to surrounding
states.

Thanks---Amy
