Ouch! Torreson's, mentioned frequently in this forum, is a great
resource for parts & knowledge. I was once told they deal in used
engines and parts. http://www.torresen.com/ <http://www.torresen.com/>

Dan's advice about Kubota also sounds interesting. I can't imagine the
block for a tractor version is any different than the marine version.

I'm also very curious about the electric motor idea. The thought of
it's clean, quit operation is VERY appealing! Anyone have any ideas of
run-time? ...or battery requirements? (or a link to web site with
answers?)

all the parts to marinize it from your old engine.  The basic
Kubota engine is a Z500 and was used in the B5100 tractors.  Here is
a site to track used engines.

rebuild is not possible as the inside was completely pitted by water and
likely to have issues down the road even with a rebuild. So I am looking
for a new used engine. It's not my forever boat so I don't want to spend
an arm and a leg. I am curious as to what other engine options there
are. What will fit the space? I looked at a 3-cyl Yanmar yesterday but I
think it's about 1.5 inches too big. Any ideas? BTW, I'm in Florida if
anyone knows of anything and will drive to surrounding states.
