I'm no expert but I'm learning all the time.  I too don't see a need to replace 
the old wiring if it's working.  Sounds like the port locker is the place for 
the batteries.  At least I don't have to move all the existing wiring and 
charger.

Funny thing about the sea cocks.  Most things I've read say to use 2 hose 
clamps per connection.  I plan to.  But nothing about safety wire.  I used to 
road race motorcycles and we would wire every hose clamp & put one on the spin 
on oil filter to wire it to something solid.  Seemed to work pretty well & 
would add another layer of protection to the system.  If the clamp broke the 
wire would keep tension around the hose.
