Sheesh, I'm sorry, Laree. I sometimes hear people talk like owning a stallion is no big deal, but this is the sort of nightmare that freaks me out. There is a ton of responsibility in owning a stallion, even a sweet, easy-going one. My fence is secure, board fence with a strand of electric, but still, things happen. And the opposite could also happen - a group of neighbor mares could get out and come onto our property. Melnir is normally a sweet puppy dog, able to live with either his mares or gelding buddies, but what would happen if a mixed group of loose horses came onto our property and the geldings were defensive of their mares? Would he fight for them? It would certainly be within the range of normal stallion instincts, I think. I have no idea exactly what would happen, and I hope I never have to find out. Karen Thomas, NC
