>> What is a TOBIANO PAINT? Is this specific to Quarter Horses?

Actually, QH's are restricted to having mostly a solid color, otherwise they
are not supposed to be registered as QH, so tobianos are not QH. QH can
have socks and a blaze, but there are limits.

Originally paint and pinto were pretty much interchangeable terms for
non-Appaloosa-patterned "spotted" horses - also called piebald and skewbald
in England. Eventually (maybe since the 1940's?) "Paints" became a registry
of stock-type horses - similar to QH, but with spots. I think Paints are
allowed to be bred with QH and TB and still be registered. QH can be bred
with TB - to maximum percentages - and still be registered QH. Those QH are
designated Appendix QH - but that's off the pinto/paint subject.

By today's definition, a tobiano paint would be registered (presumably) with
the APHA, and have tobiano markings. He could also be chestnut/white,
black/white, bay/white or some modified combination color such as dun,
palomino or buckskin.

Tobiano, sabino and overo are patterns within the generic "pinto" colors,
regardless of breed- there are other patterns too, but I'm not a pinto
expert. Tobiano is the most common pattern - Skjoni and Flekka are
tobianos, and of course, they are Icelandics. My QH x Mustang mare is
tobiano - but she got her color from her mustang dad. You can look on the
American Paint Horse association for more details on marking patterns and
definitions.

"The greatest enemy of the truth very often is not the lie- deliberate,
contrived and dishonest -- but the myth -- persistent, persuasive and
unrealistic."

"All truth passes through three stages.
First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident." ~ Arthur Schopenhauer
