it is increasingly becoming my own personal experience that the
extremely nurtured and loved and doted on horse just freaks out when
we suddenly act "tough" but if you can get them calm and back to
thinking mode then it works out awesome. Stonewall, my problem child,
is my most human horse, a big slobbery puppy dog. he doesnt freak out
so much as he seems to forget about acting different when a human is
ON him. And forget the roundpen deal, he learned within three
sessions how to fake me out. Its very hard to keep sending a horse
around in the RP when he is at your elbow everywhere you go with a
cheery expression of "what?!? want me to stand on my head? bow?
fetch a hat??" He almost killed me this weekend when I was bringing
them in for feeding. Jaspar and Traveller, his "herd" he sleeps with,
had gone in, but he lagged behind wanting to make threatening ears at
Tivar, telling him to back off, which he had, I was standing holding
the gate and stonewall suddenly decided to impress Tivar with his
"badness" by peeling out farting and cowkicking, whacking the gate and
slamming me back against the fence and squshing me. He could have
kicked me thru the gate rail and really hurt me. but what could I do,
he wasnt trying to hurt me, it was like I didnt exist. My husband
thinks stonewall perceives me as another horse that he adores and
respects, but expects me, like him, to take care of myself as a horse
would, move fast out of the way etc. I gotta figure out how to pin my
ears at him i guess...
