Hi Robyn:

You have to see to believe how snakes can climb. Logically, it makes no
sense at all. After all, they do not have prehensile hands, and aren't they
slippery? Yeah, but they don't know that! I have seen with my own eyes how a
snake climbed up a perfectly straight wall, and how a cow sucker (rat snake
- or whatever it's called) climbed up and through a flimsy bush with me
screaming at it while targeting it with a strong stream of water from the
hose and my husband banging at it with a rake successfully devouring some
brown thrush nestlings. The brown thrush mama or daddy was also attaching
the snake at the same time. No good. Next time one of these snakes gets even
close to that bush I will get a four-foot horse whip. That is much more
effective than a stiff thing like a rake. Some snakes are amazing.
