Our trails are not lit and don't really need to be. On several occasions,
when the dark snuck up on us on a trail ride we let the horses take us home.
Horses have much better eyesight that we do and you can trust them to not
get themselves and us into trouble.
Where I have outdoor lighting is my foaling paddock. I have five outdoor
floodlights directed at it so I can see the mare who is near foaling at all
times, day or night and any change in behavior immediately gets my
attention. Dark horses tend to disappear around the edges of it, so when the
time is near, they wear a piece of a white sheet at night.
