Look at what each breed is bred to do: any kind of sheepdog is bred to work w/ people and livestock, and herding breeds are notoriously obedient in general. Whereas huskies and spitz-type dogs are bred to run ahead, to pull (whether from a harness or a collar makes no difference to them, hence some difficulty w/ teaching them to walk nicely on a lead), to think for themselves/make decisions themselves instead of looking to a human for leadership. Similar thing w/ hounds--they are not bred to be obedient--they are bred to range ahead and hunt. Robyn S
