are you in a drought?  he may be looking for water.  critters come
into my pastures to drink from the horse's water troughs when its dry.
 I HATE coyotes!!  The fearless arrogance you describe is absolutely
normal. I have seen them glare at me real cold and haughty with one of
my prize chickens in their mouths.  yes they are nocturnal, but if it
was hunting a long way off and had pups to feed or something--
